Lesson 1

The podcast is at the bottom of this post.
Make sure to turn your speakers on.

Make sure you know you know your basic multiplications of one-digit number (like 8 x 7) with “Numbers Jugging – Times without the Tables.”

This lesson is about how to mulitiply two-digit numbers by 2. One of the digits are greater than 5, making one carry.

An example would be 2 x 64.

Another would be 93 x 2.

Some of the things we’ll talk about in this podcast:

  • Learning the reason to keep an open mind, and the pitfall of thinking “I already know that.”
  • Learning the reason to to multiplication from left to right.
  • When you multiply from left to right, you will looking to the right to anticipate the consequences of what you will be doing later. You’ll understand this after you listen to the podcast.

Part of Math Mojo is learning about consequences of your thoughts and actions. Actually, that is a huge part of what math in general is about – anticipating outcomes, based on understanding patterns.
