The Abax

• The abax is made out of unfinished polplar wood. (The abax shown in the picture above is pine. The poplar version is a bit nicer. I'll get a picture of it up soon.) It is non-toxic. It comes with 36 marbles (enough to fill all the columns), and a plastic container for the marbles.
  
  
• After opening the marble container, the top of the container should be laid under the far end of the abax, so the marbles roll towards you in their columns.
  
  
• You can order replacement marbles from Math Mojo, but you may just as well be able to find some the right size at a local toystore. Give that a try, first, and save shipping and handling (and waiting time).
  
  
• The abaxes were made by hand by yours truly (Professor Homuculus). They may not be art, but they are made with pure Math Mojo!

The abax and marbles should be used carefully, and small children should never use them without adult supervision. Marbles are normal size, and a child might swallow one. Please use common sense when using them with children, and make sure they understand not to put them into their mouths, etc.

Although these things might be seen as toys, they are not being sold as such. They are educational tools, and are sold only for that purpose.
